As we work our way through the final weeks of the season, playoff position and draft position become hot topics!
INJURIES GALORE
A lot of our QBs are banged up – playing injured or not playing at all. The injured list this week included Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Jordan Love and JJ McCarthy. This thinned the field a bit for Week 17 action.
THURSDAY NIGHT
Thursday night saw three Christmas games on the docket – a new thing for the NFL. Jared Goff was our only QB in-action. Coming off a Pro-Bowl snub and with the playoffs on-the-line, we expected great things… but got a dud instead.
The Lions only put up 10 points, with Goff producing only 4.08 fantasy points – his lowest output of the year.
SATURDAY GAMES
This time of year gives us Saturday games as well! With both Lamar Jackson and Jordan Love out with injuries, the Packers / Ravens game was much less meaningful for The QB Club.
Pro-Bowler Justin Herbert put up 17.14 points in a loss against the Texans, taking a tenuous lead into Sunday’s games.
SUNDAY
Sunday’s games got things moving with the bulk of our quarterbacks on-schedule. But no one seemed to want to take charge this week.
Darnold put up a dud, 8.08 points, in a W against the Panthers while Aaron Rodgers posted just 7.32 points in an upset loss to the Browns.
Baker Mayfield’s Bucs lost their 7th game in the last 8, with Mayfield putting up 21.44 points. Trevor Lawrence, now officially LIVE in The QB Club after the NFT giveaway, had a solid 23.12-point performance in a win over the Colts. Lawrence has been playing very well as the Jags having been hot these past few weeks.
But it was Joe Burrow who would take the lead in the early window with 24.4 points in a 37-14 drubbing of the hapless Cardinals.
LATE WINDOW
With only 2 games on the 4pm docket Sunday and a 24.4-point hurdle to take first place, Jalen Hurts and Josh Allen appeared primed to take over the top spot.
But a 13-12 final, with the Eagles coming out on top, didn’t make for a lot of fantasy scoring!
Hurts put up only 10.9 points in the match-up, while Allen would just miss the mark putting up 23.18 points on the day to narrowly miss the top spot. What might have been – a missed open-receiver for a 2-point conversion plus a fumble earlier on – may have cost Allen the week for his NFT holder.
MONDAY NIGHT
Possible MVP, Matt Stafford, went up against the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football. You had to think Stafford in the Prime Time spotlight was ready to put up some numbers. But the Rams would be blanked in the first half. Uncharacteristically, Stafford threw a whopping THREE interceptions! The Rams would lose 27-24, with Stafford’s 16.76 points not enough to do the job this week.
BURROW!
This left Joe Burrow atop the leaderboard, winning with a low total of 24.4 fantasy points. This was the first week we went without a QB eclipsing 30 fantasy points. Not a good time of the year to have your signal-callers losing steam!
SEASON AWARDS
The season awards races are winding down as well. What do we have to look forward to in Week 18?
FANTASY-SCORING LEADERBOARD
Josh Allen seems to have the season all locked-up with 414 total points. The race is for second and third. Jalen Hurts is currently in 2nd place with 349.06 and Jared Goff is in third with 347.82 (last week’s dud really hurt his chances).
Justin Herbert is also in striking distance with 336.68 points, though he’d have to play a solid game and hope for Hurts or Goff to stumble.
PASSING YARDS
Jared Goff has the Passing Yards lead pretty much wrapped-up with 4,233. Herbert and Allen currently own the other two payout-slots with 3,727 and 3,668 yards respectively. A long way down the list is Baker Mayfield with 3,490 yards. It would take quite an amazing day for Mayfield to crack the top 3.
PASSING TDs
Goff also has a commanding lead among QB Club quarterbacks for Passing TDs, with 33. A number of QBs will be battling for 2nd and 3rd place. Let’s run them down:
Herbert is in 2nd place with 26 TDs.
Allen, Mayfield, and Hurts all have 25 TDs.
Jordan Love is still in the picture, if he gets through concussion protocol, with 24.
RUSHING YDS
The QB Club only pays out the top rushing QB in a given year. Right now, Josh Allen is poised to be that guy. With 579 yds rushing, his only competition appears to be Justin Herbert, who is 83 yards back with 496 yards rushing.
