I admit… it took me by surprise. To some degree it feels dishonest – selecting this year’s Pro Bowl players with two games still on the calendar? Sorta ridiculous if you ask me.
The Pro Bowl selections have a profound interest in The QB Club, as NFT owners each receive a 3-share payout (19,734 $QBC). For the NFT holders who were snubbed by the Pro Bowl selection process, we understand your pain.
THE SLAM DUNK WINNERS
In our estimation, there were three slam-dunks in the Pro Bowl selection process. Matt Stafford has been dominating the stat column all year, even though most of the season his NFT was not owned and LIVE. His NFT was scooped up and registered about a month ago, and Matt Stafford’s owner will be very happy he made that move.
Josh Allen has put up some massive statistical weeks and currently leads The QB Club in season totals. While perhaps his consistency lacks somewhat (he’s had a few duds in there as well), he has posted 3 of the top 4 weeks of a QB Club quarterback this season and will cash-in with his owner this year.
Perhaps we have his NFT price set too high, but Drake Maye’s NFT represents his tokenized rookie card (underlying value) and he seems to have years of collecting $QBC rewards ahead of him for whoever decides to buy it. Mike Vrabel and Drake Maye have helped put the Patriots back on the map this season, sending them to the playoffs, with Maye putting up some strikingly great stats in the meantime. We can’t argue with the selection here.
THE QUESTIONABLE SELECTIONS
The Seahawks are back in contention, led by a staunch defense and QB Sam Darnold. Darnold was another one whose NFT was activated later in the season. His stats are impressive, but do not necessarily stand out against some of his contemporaries. Regardless, the Seahawks success under Darnold’s fiery leadership is what sets him apart and his name has been whispered in the MVP discussion most of the early season.
Dak Prescott started the season strong and kept the Cowboys in contention through the early game, putting up solid numbers despite having to deal with injuries to his receiving corps. The only QB Pro Bowl selection whose team missed the playoffs this year, voters must have leaned on Dak’s statistical output and leadership.
In the AFC, Justin Herbert led the Chargers to a playoff berth despite an injury-plagued season for the Chargers – their offensive line missing their bookend tackles (Alt and Slater) and their running backs Harris and Hampton both missing significant time. Herbert held the team together through most of the season with a very consistent performance, only putting up one ‘dud’ game (under 10 pts) against a hot Jacksonville team.
THE SNUBS
The team at The QB Club disagrees with two of the picks and feel like there was one particular NFT holder who got the shaft at Pro Bowl time.
Jared Goff has been a standout all season long. His week 2 performance, putting up nearly 44 fantasy points, is still good for second best QB Club performance this season. Though not eliminated, the Lions are on the playoff brink and have lost some questionably close games against some of the league’s best teams. Despite having two running backs (Gibbs/Montgomery) stealing a lot of the point-scoring, Goff still was able to put up a QB Club-leading 32 TDs through the first 16 weeks. The only one who has thrown more TDs this season was the likely MVP, Matthew Stafford. The Lions have not clinched a playoff berth, and perhaps that weighed-down the voting , but we think Goff got the shaft and deserved the Pro Bowl nod over Dak.
Bo Nix, on the other hand, is another sophomore QB like Drake Maye, who led his team to an AFC-leading 12-3 record. He’s sixth in the league in passing yards as the Broncos just keep on winning. Though it’s a close call, we think perhaps Nix might have edged out Herbert in the Pro Bowl voting. However, Nix’s NFT is currently unowned, so it’s nice to see a QB Club NFT owner take home some extra $QBC rewards!
MAYBE MAHOMES?
If you’re going to put Dak in the mix despite missing the playoffs, we have to wonder if Patrick Mahomes should have been in consideration as well. Mahomes collected 3 weekly wins, putting up the most fantasy points in weeks 4, 6, and 13. He did this despite a subpar running game, depleting output from his love-stricken tight end, and without the help of Rashee Rice for most of the early season. Yeah, we know he was injured and a torn ACL will have him out until next season, but if we’re going to write-off the last 2 weeks of the season anyway, why should they matter? Maybe Mahomes’ performance wasn’t up to his typical dominance and maybe he’s not an official “snub.” But we felt he should at least be mentioned.
WRAP-UP
We have a lot of rewards still to come this season – the last two weeks plus the playoffs, and all the regular season statistical winners! We’re super-excited about the future of The QB Club and wish all our NFT-holders and token investors Happy Holidays!
